The Purpose of the TPS Fellow

The Taiwan Photonics Society has established regulations for the application, review, and approval of Fellows of the Society in accordance with Article 13 of the Society's bylaws. The aim is to enhance the research and innovation atmosphere in the field of photonics domestically, attract talent, and recognize the outstanding contributions of Society members in the field of photonics and optics. Pursuant to the provisions of Article 13 of the Society's organizational regulations, these regulations for the selection of Fellows of the Society are hereby formulated.

The Society can have a maximum of 5% of its total membership as Fellows. Each year, the number of new Fellows chosen cannot exceed 1% of the current year's membership. The calculation for selecting new Fellows each year will also consider 1% of the sum of the current year's individual and permanent memberships, rounded to the nearest whole number.

Criteria for Candidates

He or she must be permanent member of the Society.

Criteria for Nominators (In compliance with any one of the following conditions)

(1) Current directors or supervisors of the Society.

(2) Permanent members of the Society and possess the title of Fellow from any of the following societies: TPS, Optica, IEEE, SPIE, APS, IET.

(3) Joint nomination by at least five members.

(4) Recipients of the Society's TPS Photonics Medal.

Nomination Procedure

(1) Nomination form: Including the candidate's name, affiliated institution, commonly used email address, a description of the main contribution within 20 Chinese characters, and its corresponding English description (Please use the provided form).

(2) Candidate's research expertise and academic achievements: Introduce the candidate's contributions to the field of photonics technology and reasons for recommendation (Please use the provided form). Contribution areas include:

  • Photonics industry.
  • Photonics education.
  • Photonics application engineering and technology development.
  • Fundamental scientific research in photonics.
  • Promotion and service in photonics-related activities in industry and academia.

(3) Candidate's resume: Including a list of publications, no more than 20 pages of A4 size, in any document format.

(4) Representative works of the candidate: Between one to five pieces, in any document format.

(5) Recommendation letters: Please provide three recommendation letters, one of which must be from a TPS Fellow, Optica Fellow, SPIE Fellow, APS Fellow, IET Fellow, IEEE Fellow, or a recipient of the Society's Photonics Engineering Award (in any document format).

All the aforementioned documents should be sent in hard copy to the TPS Taipei Office, and also provide an E-doc via Email.*
