The Purpose of the TPS Photonics Medal is to honor individuals who have made significant academic, engineering, or managerial achievements or inventions in the field of optoelectronic engineering. This award also aims to recognize those who have made substantial contributions to the nation by leading optoelectronic engineering institutions or organizing optoelectronic engineering-related activities.
Awarding Criteria
The President of the Society or distinguished guests shall present the highest honor, the “TPS Photonics Medal” and certificate. The outstanding achievements of the awardees will be publicly announced in the handbook of the TPS Annual General Assembly.
Eligibility for Application
- The member of the Society.
- Individuals with significant achievements or inventions in academic, engineering, or managerial aspects of optoelectronic engineering.
- Those who lead optoelectronic engineering institutions or organize optoelectronic engineering activities, contributing significantly to the nation and society."
Criteria for Nominators
Any permanent, individual, or group members (within the valid membership period) of at least five or more from the society may collectively recommend candidates for the award. Each member of the society is limited to recommend only one candidate per term for the award. If two or more candidates are recommended simultaneously by one member, none of the recommendations will be accepted.
The recommendation letter should be co-signed and stamped by the group member or recommending individuals. It should be sealed and sent via registered mail to the society's Member Review Committee before the deadline. Upon qualification review by the Member Review Committee, the recommendation will be forwarded to the Award Selection Panel for deliberation.
If no candidate is proposed during the current term or if the proposed candidate(s) do not receive approval from the Award Selection Panel, the Award Selection Panel, with the signatures of at least five members, may propose additional award candidates for further review or decide to abstain from selection during the panel meeting.

Submission Deadline
The deadline is August 31st, 2023, postmarked.
Evaluation Process
Review Committee: Appointed by the Board of Directors or nominated by the President of the society, eligible for re-election.
Members of the Selection Panel must attend meetings in person or by signature. The quorum for a meeting shall be more than half of the total number of members eligible to attend. Candidates shall be elected by the attending members through an anonymous voting process, and the candidate with the highest number of votes, exceeding half of the attending members, shall be elected.
The Selection Panel shall present the chosen TPS Photonics Medal recipients to the Joint Meeting of the Board of Directors and Supervisors between October and November for approval. This process should align with the schedule of the Board of Directors and Supervisors' meetings.
Award Review
- Review the written review materials and seek opinions from attending committee members.
- Adopt a two-stage voting process; abstention votes are not permitted.
- In the first stage, committee members vote on all candidates. Each member may cast votes for one to more than half (inclusive) of the total number of candidates. Before voting, the Chair may coordinate the maximum number of votes with attending members. Those candidates receiving the highest number of votes, exceeding half of the attending committee members (candidates with equal votes may be considered), proceed to the second stage for final selection.
- In the second stage, each committee member casts one vote. The candidate with the highest number of votes, exceeding half of the attending committee members, will be the recipient of the award for this term.
- Candidates with equal votes in the final stage may be recognized jointly as award recipients.

Implementation Method
These regulations shall be implemented after being approved by the Board of Governors and Supervisors of the Society and shall be amended in the same manner.
